Del-Mar-Va Council Camps Alumni Association
Del-Mar-Va Council is pleased to announce the formation of
the Del-Mar-Va Council Camps Alumni Association. The mission of the association
is “to identify people with a connection to our camping programs, to build on
their collective experiences in our camps, and to draw on that relationship to
further the goals and objectives of the outdoor program of the Del-Mar-Va
Council and the Boy Scouts of America”.
The first focus of this effort will be to develop a contact
database of prior camp staff members from both Henson and Rodney since their
respectivengs! Pat Press of Bear, Delaware, a former Rodney and Henson
staff member has agreed to assist with data collection for Rodney Scout
Reservation. Bill Sterling of Ocean City, Maryland has agreed to provide the
same effort for Henson Scout Reservation. The Camp Alumni section will occur
regularly in the Del-Mar-Va Scouter as the primary means of communication with
the association. If you are receiving this issue for the first time it may be
because you have been identified as having a connection with one of our camps.
If you would like to update your contact information OR be deleted from the list
please use the address above.
Join and Remember “The
Scout Camp on the Chesapeake”
From 1923 to present there have been thousands of campers
and hundreds of staff members that have been at Camp Rodney. At this time we are
inviting the staff of the past to return to revisit the camp and their fond
memories of summers past. Are you one of these people or do you know someone who
is?
Come to camp in mid July (date to be announced) meet old
friends, visit the camp and reconnect with good memories of your time spent at
Rodney. This event is just the start of the Alumni
Association. We are trying to build a database of people with a connection to
the camp to get them re-involved, whether it is in time spent at camp, stories
of the past events, history of the property, or just a renewed interest in the
camp and its well being.
We currently have one thousand and forty one names on the
list. If you are a past staff member, recent or far past, or know someone who
is, please e-mail that information to the address above.

Camp Alumni - Where Are
They Now?
Patrick Press
Pat is an alumnus of both council camps serving as an
Aquatics Instructor, Assistant Aquatics Director, Brownsea Director and
Scoutcraft Director at Rodney Scout Reservation from 1986 until 1991 and as the
Program Director at Henson Scout Reservation from 1992-1994. Pat attended
Salesianum High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from
the University of Delaware in 1993 and a Master of Science in Management
(concentration in Human Resources Management) from Wilmington College in 2004.
He has just been accepted into a doctoral program at George Washington
University which will commence in June 2005.
Pat is married since 2000 to his wife Rosie who is a day
care center director in Pike Creek, Delaware. They have beautiful two year old
twins, Abby and Zack. After his undergraduate work, Pat spent several years
working in the non-profit sector. In 1998 he began working at First USA Bank in
Wilmington, Delaware and has grown with the company as it has undergone two
mergers. He is currently a Vice President and Production Assurance Director at
JPMorgan Chase & Company.
Pat looks back at his years spent at camp, especially the
early years, and acknowledges them as being some of the most formative periods
in his life. He believes serving as a camp staff member contributed in large
part to the person he is today. He says that of his many roles on camp staff
nothing beat the thrill of teaching a scout to swim. When he thinks of all the
things of which he has to be proud of in life, he still remembers the names of
boys who came to camp as non-swimmers and left having passed their swimmers
test!
Pat has agreed to assist with data collection and the first
annual Rodney Scout Reservation Alumni Gathering this July. His contact
information is: 8 Eaton PL, Bear, DE 19701, home phone: , email:
