Food Service Options - In
order to best meet your needs, Henson Scout Reservation offers two food service options.
Our most popular service is
conventional family style Dining Hall. Delicious meals are prepared in our kitchen
and served family style in our 400 seat dining hall. We have a 7:30 am
to 8:15 am Breakfast buffet that has proven very popular. Scouts sit and eat at their assigned tables.
Troop
Commissary is also available for units that would like to provide their own food and
cook and eat it in their campsite. We provide all of the necessary cooking gear and
propane stoves for each patrol! All units participate in a campwideng
Chicken-Bar-B-Que on Sunday evening.
Campsites include wide
wall canvas tents on full platforms with wooden outriggers. Each patrol site of tents also
has a dining fly and picnic table, complete with patrol kitchen equipment for those units
eating in their campsite. Each campsite also has a flagpole and assembly area, central
latrine and water supply. All campsites are located within close proximity to all program
areas and the dining hall. Shower facilities are also nearby in modern comfort
stations with flush toilets. Henson Scout Reservation was
designed using National Engineering standards in the 1960s.
This camp is as close as possible to the "perfect" camp design.
BMX Biking and Trail Biking
on our BMX
racing track and woods trails, will be available for all Boy Scout campers on a first come, first served
sign-up basis in 45 minute blocks. This rough and tumble program provides hills, thrills,
dips and more. All safety equipment and bicycles will be provided.
Brownsea Troop Training - The activities in this First Year Camper
program operate on the same basis as the troop program does year round. New Scouts may
work on Tenderfoot through First Class ranks simultaneously. Each mornings
or afternoon's activities center on skills development for these first three ranks. Some Scouts may have
attained some of these skills before attending camp, and may work on those skills they
need to improve. This program provides a great start for boys on the great advancement
trek! A special Brownsea patch will be issued to all participants.
Aquatics Programs - A
great variety of the highest quality water programs are available. A full range of
swimming activities, including swimming instruction, Swimming and Lifesaving merit badges,
the Mile Swim, BSA lifeguard, and Snorkeling BSA are provided in our pool. The pool may
also be made available for individual unit activities as time provides. Henson Scout
Reservation is bounded by two of the most productive tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay in
the Nanticoke Watershed area, the Nanticoke River and the Marshyhope Creek. Boating
activities include sailing, rowing, canoeing, water-skiing, motorboating. We also have a
24 Pontoon boat for fishing expeditions and an inland bass pond for the true angler!
Other Exciting Features include a Handicraft Lodge with a full range of
equipment and supplies for activities including the handicraft merit badges, a Nature
Lodge with a highly trained staff, all the best equipment and over 1400 acres of
outdoor laboratory, a Shooting Sports Program that includes instruction and
practice in archery, rifle shooting, shotgun shooting and a new program this year muzzle
loader shooting, a Scoutcraft area that boasts of the highest participation by new
campers of any other area in the camp! Henson Scout Reservation is also proud to be able
to offer completely accessible campsites and program facilities to meet the needs of all
campers.
